West Frankfort, Ill. - On Saturday, February 18, the Morthland College Patriots took on the Eagles from Robert Morris University - Peoria for Morthland's Senior Night game. The boys in green came out victorious with a final score of 93-67.
After Morthland's Aaron Rushing won the opening tip, a series of turnovers led to RMU's Jamor Stewart scoring the first four points of the game.
However it was all Patriots after that as they pushed ahead to a 6-6 tie just three minutes into the game and never looked back.
Morthland took at 39-24 lead into the half behind 16 points from Sophomore Tyler Burmester.
The second half started much like the first until the Patriots used a 26-7 run to blow the game wide open by the midway point of the second half.
Morthland refused to look back, pushing their 25 point lead up to 31 before settling for a 26 point victory with a final score of 93-67.
The Patriots were paced offensively by Tyler Burmester who finished with 33 points and 11 rebounds. Rushing added 26 points to go with 14 rebounds, and Dylan Burmester, Morthland's lone senior, had 20 points and four rebounds.
Burmester was especially deadly from the free throw line where he went 6-for-7.
Morthland's defense was on full display by holding Robert Morris to 35 percent shooting from the field and 3-for-23 from beyond the arc.
As a team, the Patriots also had 10 steals including three from Rushing and two each from DeMaria Nance and Ben McFarland.
The Patriots wrap up their regular season next Saturday, 2/25, against Robert Morris University – Springfield in Springfield, Illinois at 2 p.m.
